MUSICAL MERIT FOUNDATION

HUGGABLE HEROES PROGRAM

Here's a unique scholarship opportunity that's based on good deeds vs. good grades! It opens new doors for kids who might not have a chance to get an academic scholarship.
It recognizes everyday young people who go to extraordinary lengths to make life better for others. From helping children in underdeveloped countries to supporting cancer and diabetes research, organizing toy drives and sending care packages to our troops overseas, young people are volunteering and making significant contributions.
Ten students will be selected and each will be awarded with a $7,500 educational scholarship and $2,500 in the form of a donation to the 501 (c)(3) charity of his/her choice, as well as a celebration trip to St. Louis in July.

MIKEY BURKE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Grade 12
Mikey was always a very creative person with a real talent for athletics. While doing triathlons he also lettered in Wrestling, Swimming, Lacrosse and Water Polo while at GHS. He graduated in 1998 and coached Novice Water Polo at GHS in 1998 and 1999 while attending SDSU. Mike graduated from Calif.StateUniversity at Northridge with a film, cinema and TV degree in 2002. Mikey was a person who followed his dreams. Mikey's life ended on October 18, 2004 along the beautiful Southern California coast in Carlsbad. Mikey had been a cameraman for Fox when he was killed.
There are three scholarships that will be presented to a boy and a girl water polo senior and a lacrosse senior from GrossmontHigh School, who have plans of furthering their education- through an accredited 2 or 4-year University or vocational trade school.

TEEN CAPITOL DAY
Ages 13-19
This is a fun, valuable, and rewarding opportunity for teens to become involved in California’s legislative process and actively influence politics. A group of teens between the ages of 13 and 19 will be selected from San Diego, Riverside & Imperial
Counties to fly to Sacramento and participate in Planned Parenthood’s yearly statewide Capitol Day. At the state’s capitol, the teens will join hundreds of Planned Parenthood staff and activists of all ages in attending an education fair and participating in workshops on creating change and taking action. Participants will also meet with California’s elected officials and lobby on behalf of Planned Parenthood and teens everywhere.
Those attending Teen Capitol Day will learn valuable skills used to influence the political process and gain the tools necessary to become actively involved both during the event and in the future as teen activists and leaders.
The date of this year’s Capitol Day is Wednesday, May 5th, 2010. All teens selected will also attend a local Lobbying Training before the event and a local Debriefing Dinner after the event.

BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU – STUDENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

The program is designed to train students to deliver this information to peer groups on campus. You’ll receive two hours of training on the educational information that you’ll be asked to share. You’ll then have the opportunity to develop and deliver your presentation to a small peer group. Each Ambassador will be required to make the presentation to a minimum of two peer groups. Students may also choose to work in teams of two. Up to 4 students or 2 student teams will be chosen from each high school.
Plus, students will appreciate this as a resume builder. There will be three scholarship incentives for the most number of students presented to. A recognition event will be held annually to award certificates and incentive prizes.

CSE – YOUTH AUTOMOBILE SAFETY SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY

To promote driver safety and awareness among young people, in 2010 Civil Service Employees Insurance Company (CSE) will offer a total of $12,000 in scholarships. CSE will offer scholarships in the amount of $1,500 for first place, $1,000 for second place, and $500 each for third through fifth places to a child of a full-time or retired public employee, (parent or legal guardian must be currently employed full-time by -- or if retired or deceased, must have been employed full-time by -- a government entity. This definition of public employee includes, but is not limited to, peace officers; firefighters; educators; postal employees; military personnel; and federal, state, and local government workers.
